Pat Lawrence, the author, doesn't exist in reality. It's actually a husband and wife team. These two join their ideas and put them on paper in the form of books. They created this name to write their fiction. Pat Adsit Burke and Daniel Lawrence Burke combined their names to create a pen name to write under.
The couple first met in Ken Ludwig's play Moon Over Buffalo. They were cast as a married couple. There was an immediate connection between the two. Pat and Lawrence both shared the love of suspense thrillers. This common interest lead them to join forces and began writing.
Inspiration for the couple comes from everywhere. They are inspired by real life events and their surroundings. They sometimes use bits and pieces of their personal lives within a story. While their work may seem like reality, it is in fact fiction. Agatha Christie, Ayn Rand, Charles Dickens, and Ken Follet are some of the authors they admire.
These two share ideas while working on stage plays or novels. Together they develop characters and bring life to them. From a single idea, they join forces to build the plot of their work. From there, it's a matter of tossing ideas back and forth. They read, edit and make suggestions to each other to form the final work.
In 2007 they established their business Murder-By-Design. This was the start of their murder mystery stage plays. They combined their talents of writing to create scripts. These were used as interactive plays that involved the audience. These stage performances became very popular.
Pat and Lawrence collaborated and produced six murder mystery scripts. They then wrote a comedy Squirrels In The Attic. This play was based on funny situations the couple experienced in real life. They took parts of their lives and incorporated it with fiction. It was a great success and is still being performed in the Midwest.
In 2011 these authors wrote their first novel Jarred Into Being. It portrays the life of a young girl overcoming many traumatic events. After the loss of her parents she is thrown from one bad situation into another. This story follows her journey into adulthood. The main character must overcome people who want to possess her and cause her harm.
On the heels of their first book comes another, An Illegal President: A Novel. The kidnapping of a congressman entwines political intrigue and mystery. It turns the life of one man upside down. A conspiracy of major magnitude surrounds him and endangers his family. He must uncover the identity of who is behind this and why.
Although no release date has been set, a third novel is currently under way. The couple calls this mystery Long Shadows. Horrific and unforeseen events intertwine different lives. In this couple's unique writing style the reader will be kept on the edge of their seat.
Pat Lawrence will keep the reader guessing. Suspense, intrigue and mystery are key features in these books. The authors deliver these things in a unique manner. In this couple's spare time, they enjoy the company of Emmett and Diesel, their English Bulldogs. Classical music, walks and a night out now and then are also how they spend time together when they're not working.
