Home Pat Lawrence, Fact Or Fiction

By Doris Rivas

Pat Lawrence, the author, doesn't exist in reality. It's actually a husband and wife team. These two join their ideas and put them on paper in the form of books. They created this name to write their fiction. Pat Adsit Burke and Daniel Lawrence Burke combined their names to create a pen name to write under.

These two first met while acting in Ken Ludgwig's play, Moon Over Buffalo. Cast as a married couple, they spent many hours together rehearsing. It's during this time that they discovered their mutual love of suspense thrillers. This common interest and a natural attraction to each other lead them to combine their talents for writing.

Charles Dickins, Ayn Rand, Agatha Christie, and Ken Follet are among their favorite authors. They find inspiration in real life events and surroundings. Sometimes they will use elements of their personal lives within a story. Although their work seems like reality, their novels are fiction.

Sharing ideas with each other is the beginning of any stage play or novel. Characters are formed and story plots created by a joint effort of this couple. Their works begin with a single idea which is developed by the collaboration of these two minds. To create the final version, they proof read, edit and share thoughts on the project.

Murder-By-Design was established in 2007. They started this company for entertaining others with murder mysteries. The unique aspect of this was the interaction between the players and audience. Combining their talents, they wrote scripts together to pursue this career. The plays became popular and drew large crowds.

Together they wrote six murder mystery scripts. They then decided to write a two act play, Squirrels In The Attic. This was based on funny events that really happened to them. They combined tidbits of their real life with fiction. This comedy is currently performed throughout the Midwest.

Their first novel was penned and published in 2011. Jarred Into Being follows the life of a young girl after losing her parents. She is thrown from one bad situation into another. This story takes the reader into a world of possessive people who cause only harm to the main character. The journey of this girl continues into adulthood where she must discover a way to overcome the control of others.

On the heels of their first book comes another, An Illegal President: A Novel. The kidnapping of a congressman entwines political intrigue and mystery. It turns the life of one man upside down. A conspiracy of major magnitude surrounds him and endangers his family. He must uncover the identity of who is behind this and why.

Although no release date has been set, a third novel is currently under way. The couple calls this mystery Long Shadows. Horrific and unforeseen events intertwine different lives. In this couple's unique writing style the reader will be kept on the edge of their seat.

Pat Lawrence will keep the reader guessing. Suspense, intrigue and mystery are key features in these books. The authors deliver these things in a unique manner. In this couple's spare time, they enjoy the company of Emmett and Diesel, their English Bulldogs. Classical music, walks and a night out now and then are also how they spend time together when they're not working.
