Home A Plan Back To Basics Parenting Texas

By Barbara Wilson

Let's face it, parenting is not for the faint of heart, and Christian parenting can often feel even more challenging. Thankfully, parenting for Christians can be simpler because you have divine help. Here are few ways to take you back to Back to Basics Parenting Texas a little easier.

Set boundaries. This is depicted in Proverbs 22:6. Note that the more time you spend on teaching your kids how to live, the easier it will be for them to live upright lives. Although most children will not admit it, they really do crave boundaries. As adults, we understand the importance of rules, because God, our Heavenly Father, has equipped us with an entire book that tells us how to live.

Consistency. Closely related to this is consistency. Inconsistency will lead your children to feel insecure so always stick with key disciplines and never threaten a consequence or promise a reward without following through. Always be sure that all care-givers are saying the same thing and enforcing the same rules.

Pray about everything. Do you ever find yourself worrying about how your children will turn out? If so, you are not alone. Since you have been entrusted with the lives of other people, it can be intimidating and a little bit scary to take on the role of a parent. However, whom God calls, He equips, so you don't have to worry about how you are going to raise your children anymore.

Never thinking about your child's long-term needs as they head into pre-teen and teen years. Most parents with small children construct agreements that deal with the immediate years ahead, but you must also make plans for pre-teen and juvenile issues that may arise, such as eye care, orthodontics, surgery, therapy and more. Even creating a college savings plan for your children should be part of your negotiations. Figure out how you'll deal with the costs now to avoid conflict in the future.

A reward must be something that is given after your child has shown particularly good behavior, often when you have agreed in advance that the desired behavior will result in the specific reward. Remember that what most children want is more time with you, so often the best reward could be an extra chapter of their bedtime story or a trip to the park, it doesn't have to involve spending money.

Instead of trying to work to impress God, our part of the bargain is to love God and love others. We can learn a valuable lesson concerning Christian childrearing from that principle. While we are to discipline our children, we are also supposed to love them unconditionally. This basically means that no matter our children do, we are to show them love.

Be committed to forever. From the moment you decide to have children, you are making a lifelong commitment. It is impossible to be a part-time parent. So although it may be "inconvenient" or "uncomfortable" sometimes, you have to accept the fact that you have children, and that your children literally depend on you for everything. Once you accept and understand this, it will be much easier to be a parent.
