Home Things That Conservative Judaism Gay Perspectives Are Saying

By Claudine Hodges

Homosexuality is an issue that a lot of persons face today. Many gays and lesbians suffer from discrimination from their societies, and even some of their family members. Some of them are afraid to tell everyone of their sexual orientations as they are also afraid of what others may say about them or do to them.

Numerous religions are already providing their stances about homosexuality. Those conservative Judaism gay perspectives are saying several things as to this topic. The succeeding declarations are only some of those which they are believing in.

There are those people who have traditional views of the issues that many individuals face today, such as homosexuality. As such, they consider this issue as an abomination. They generally do not like gay persons. They also do not want their own sons to be homosexuals. In case their sons turn out to be just like them, they usually disown them.

However, others will also say that these individuals should be understood more as they have struggled to look for their real identities. They will say that respect is deserved by these persons, too. Respect is needed by individuals so that peaceful communities can be lived in. Acceptance is a value, as well, that should be practiced by all members.

The Torah is the Jewish counterpart of the Bible of Christians. The Torah is containing all things which people should be doing in their own lifetimes. The Torah is prohibiting the acts which are associated with homosexuality. It is not devaluing those homosexuals, however. It is maintaining the fact that all gays are humans, as well, who have feelings and also emotions. It is certainly not their fault if they find people belonging to the similar gender attractive.

There are people who harass gays and embarrass them in public. They make rude comments and jokes that hurt the feelings of homosexuals. Several queers typically attempt suicide so that they can avoid these hurtful situations. With these in mind, the Torah prohibits harassment on these people as harassment opposes the values that Judaism teaches to its followers.

There are those individuals who believe that homosexuality is a disease that doctors, such as psychologists and psychiatrists can cure. A lot of practitioners usually conduct therapies to gays hoping that they can turn them into the persons that they should be. However, Judaism affirms the right of the homosexuals to reject therapies and counseling which they consider as useless and even dangerous.

Several queers are marrying individuals of the opposite gender thinking that they could be changing their orientations. However, the Jewish views are not encouraging one with a homosexual orientation to be marrying a person of the opposite sex. If he will be doing so, he could be expecting some negative scenarios, like dishonesty, ruined lives, tragedy, unrequited love, and shame.

Over all, these perspectives of the Jewish rabbis will conclude that all Jews are equal, regardless of their orientation, their genders, and their wealth, among others. They also advise those queers to be true to themselves. However, they also remind them to follow the Torah and abstain from homosexual acts as much as possible.
