There is no question of the fact that the newsprint business is hurting. Many newspaper printing organizations are going broke at a growing rate. Most blame the Internet, and a few attribute leadership. Across the board every person realizes that the industry is in an upheaval. The business design put to use for above a hundred years is simply not working today. Can there be an alternative business model? The most significant newspaper printing plants in the world are anxiously looking for an answer to this predicament. Thus far, the leaders of the business have not yet come up with any worthwhile possibilities.

Consequently, is newsprint just about to become extinct? Are the very last days of the newspaper at hand? Is newsprint going to go the path of eight-track audio tapes? Is it going to develop into a timeless memory triggered by discovering yellowed newspaper copies in the rear of a shed during an occasional past due spring cleaning?

Of course not.

A myriad of people a day still read a newspaper, and the "niche" newspaper is thriving. It's not that people today don't desire to read paper copy; it's the fact that the consumer would like to read solely on themes that interests them.

Now, the web has substituted this, and it fits better within our demanding daily schedules. Daily newspapers continue to be read, but primarily for an average of a quarter-hour at a time.

Remarkably, millions are still devoted to publications, literature, newsletters and varied additional periodicals that folks still are capable of holding with their hands. They appreciate the ability to read while perusing with a beverage, supper or even more personal places (dare I say it...the throne?).

Newsprint still is probably the most economical print medium on earth. It's not that printers have to be put out of business. They must transform their business, and adapt to the market that's evolving around them.

In the past, a CMYK newsprint web-press has depended on the demand for multi-page newspapers to be printed in the millions daily, weekly or on a monthly basis. That has been the method for over 100 years. That is the design that each and every printing factory has implemented without question from roughly its invention.

That plan is history. That method is ineffective. That model ought to be packed away -- possibly in the garage. This industry really should see the future, and adopt the hints of evolution which is going on everywhere.

Especially, niche, short-run newspapers are the way forward for newsprint. They are the future for individuals, for businesses and establishments, and for everyone. These represent the only logical way for the survival for one of man's finest creations -- man's very first social media:
