Home Books That Can Be Considered As The Best Fantasy Books Of All Time

By Juliette Cruz

The niche market, of the fantasy and lore types of stories, has been around since the 1930s and has had a fairly steady following. The first authors and many subsequent authors of this genre have in fact achieved legendary status due to their strong following and imagination. Here are the following possible best fantasy books of all time out there on the shelves today.

The Hobbit in 1937 began it all when it was written by J. R. R. Tolkien. This laid the foundation of introducing to us the new and magical creatures of elves, goblins, wights and dwarves. It has become the cornerstone of the fantasy storytelling genre and has been a mainstay ever since. It is a yardstick by which many aspire to and emulate.

The Two Towers and the Return of the King later followed the Hobbit as books completing the legendary trilogy of Tolkien. This trilogy has become well known as of late being made into a major movie and all. It has already made quite a huge cosplay following with people even talking imaginary languages like Elven and Orcish.

The Belgariad and the Mallorean are also two noteworthy series written by the late David Eddings. He, like Tolkien also used the method of having more than one novel making up the story, although each book can stand on its own.

The Belgariad, a five book series starting with the Pawn of Prophecy in 1982, also affected a lot in terms of gameplay of the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons fantasy game in that it modified a lot of the maps and gameplay interactions particularly when dealing with multiple class characters and multiple characters.

The Narnia series of C. S. Lewis in the 1930s should not be left out of the discussion either. This huge compilation of linear stories comprising seven books has a following across every age level. It starts with the iconic the Lion, the Witch and Wardrobe and ends with the last book, aptly titled, The Last Battle.

The Narnia series is unforgettable with younger audiences for it is one in which there are not only magical creatures, but talking animals as well. This is something that younger audiences and readers can connect with. Due to this, it has become a staple in almost every library of a home with children who love to read.

The ones by the three authors above easily qualify to be the best fantasy books of all time. This is due to their timeless appeal and the way they can cut through age barriers for the fantasy reader or enthusiast. Not many stories can match the distinction of having an appeal that goes beyond one generation or one time era only. Imagine a book that is enjoyed and giving the same kind of entertainment in 1930 having the same effect on a reader in 2012, not many can match that power.
