Home Figuring Out Where Your Landing Page's Power Is

By Pinky Arnisola

When you spend some time thinking about it, it's easy to see that the things that are responsible for whether or not a landing page converts are pretty simple. All landing pages are made up of all of the same basic components: words and images. The things that you need to figure out, and it might take some help, is the way that you should combine those elements to get the job done. You need to reach people's emotions--their hearts and soul. But do not confuse that with being deceptive; not at all. Try to remember that buying decisions are solely emotionally based and that you are selling something with your own. You have to figure out what your audience finds the most important and how to combine that with those two important elements to better "speak" with the people who read you.

You can find quite a variety of design approaches with landing page. Page designs range from the crowded, the artful and all the way to the most spartan of page designs. We've noticed that lots of landing pages that are built for Internet marketers are more of the latter. Perhaps the reason for that is the audience knows the game and only wants the information. Interestingly, those landing pages designed for niches other than internet marketing tend to be the opposite. One thing is definitely true: you need to make sure that the page that you create isn't so busy that it takes away from your message.

One thing that you really need to avoid is putting weird demands on the people reading your landing page. Most IMers know that it's good to practice caution when asking things of future subscribers. It's possible, though, to find forms that seem like loan forms or shortened loan forms.

You need to figure out the best message that will be as effective as possible for your opt-in box. You need to think about what is going on for someone when they are just on the cusp of deciding whether or not to buy something that they want. A great sales person is going to know exactly what needs to be said to give that potential buyer the final push to get him or her moving in the right direction. There is a nearly identical situation on a landing page because a visitor wouldn't have gone to the page if they weren't interested in what was going on. Then there's just the matter of saying what the very experienced and skilled sales people would say. Read the words written above the opt-in boxes on most of the landing pages that you find and you will see what others are doing for their clincher messages.

The good news is that you can counteract all of that with good research and learning and put in a good testing program.
