Home Best Ways for Writing Persuasive Essays

By Sandra Carter

You've been given the task of writing a persuasive essay and you are lost on where to start. What exactly does a persuasive essay comprise and what's an appropriate subject for your essay? Curiously enough, you are already an expert at persuasive essays. Its just your audience has traditionally been yourself. Every time you find yourself filling a second bowl of ice cream or blowing off your work, you've listened to that persuasive voice in your head. And honestly, ice cream and procession are great subjects to use to persuade you in one direction or another.

So what to do in this instance? First a persuasive essay is a written essay with the sole goal of swaying the audience to agree with you and your argument. Your essay can vary greatly from significant topics to the preposterous. But what's most crucial is a persuasive essay topic you find delightful. Check the news or online blogs for current events that might spur an inspirational subject. There are sites available with different persuasive essay topics as kick-off points, like www.abouttopics.com. However you discover your subject, be certain to have enough interest that you will be able to write enthusiastically about the topic. You might need to stay away from commonly used subjects, like abortion or death penalty, unless you have something new to claim or you are especially fanatical about the topic. You wish to keep your audience interested and choosing something they have been told about regularly will be daunting.

It's a smart idea to find something explicit as your persuasive essay topic. As an example, you might focus on animal testing. Animal testing (and its moral standpoint) is a good subject. But if you can focus it further, like animal testing for serious diseases or animal testing for cosmetics, you will find specific examples to back up your claims. Make sure the evidence you use is incontestable fact and well reasoned. You do not need to fill your essay with lies or make your reader suspicious.

Just find something that you care about and explore. Here are 1 or 2 good starter persuasive essay topics to get your juices flowing:

-Is animal testing ever moral?

-Is war required?

-Is today's music better or worse than older music styling's?

-Should we censor the content on the Internet?

-Is the drinking age too low? Too high?
